COMMAND VEHICLES

Command vehicles allow Umatilla Fire’s Chief Officers to respond independently with the communications, equipment, and resources needed to assess emergencies, establish command, and coordinate responding crews. At complex incidents, they provide a command location for organizing operations, requesting assistance, and communicating with dispatch and cooperating agencies.

With limited personnel on duty each day, this independent response capability provides important flexibility. When crews are committed to one emergency, an available Chief Officer can respond to another incident, assess immediate needs, begin appropriate actions within their capabilities, and coordinate additional resources. This helps the district manage simultaneous calls and make effective use of available personnel.

Command vehicles also allow Chief Officers to conduct training, preincident planning, site visits, and district business while remaining equipped and available for emergency response. They support duty officer coverage beyond normal office hours and provide practical transportation for assignments that do not require a full-size fire apparatus.
